DHD customizes each session/project to suit the unique needs of our clients. We take pride in not only our work, but in the satisfaction of those we serve. Of course, we don’t expect you to take our word for it:
Melissa, on her family photo shoot:
I’m so glad we had a family photo shoot with Lindsay! Her relaxed manner made the kids feel immediately at ease. We have been showing our photos to friends and family this weekend and everyone has been impressed with how beautiful they turned out.
Tommi and Micah, on their birth story experience:
We are so very happy to have had Lindsay as part of our birth. From the moment we contacted her, she was completely professional and accommodating. Since births can be rather unpredictable, she made herself available and stayed in contact with us, often with timely words of encouragement as we waited for our baby. I know that at one point she even went out with her family but took a separate car and packed her gear ‘just in case’! And when the time finally did come to welcome our baby, Lindsay was there to capture every glorious moment. She was a quiet, calm presence and she managed to capture amazing moments without disrupting the labor journey. We would highly encourage any expectant mother to consider having Lindsay chronicle their birth story!
Pilar, on her in-home newborn session:
We are so thankful that we asked Lindsay do a newborn shoot when our son was a week old. Though inviting someone to take photos in your home so soon after giving birth can feel a little overwhelming, Lindsay made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. She sent us a detailed email in advance so that we knew what to expect, including the fact that we would take our cues from our tiny model. Lindsay was very attentive to our son’s needs throughout the shoot and patiently worked to get some of the poses that we had hoped to include. She has a great eye for lighting, props, etc., but was also happy to take suggestions from us. I knew the photos would be really special and was thrilled with the final product. My husband and I have now used Dainty Hippo Design for a maternity shoot and a newborn shoot and enthusiastically recommend them to our friends. They are very easy to work with from scheduling to ordering prints or CDs and truly stand behind their work.
Sandra (of West Philly Mama), on her in-home newborn session:
Supporting a local lesbian/woman owned small business while working with someone I know I like and feel comfortable with? Yes, please. When Zoe arrived we set up a session right away so as not to miss out on that newborn squishiness… Lindsay arrived with her equipment and made conversation with us as she snapped some practice shots to gauge light and get us comfortable. I’m usually very stiff in front of a camera – I strike an awkward pose, slap on a fake smile and worry about my many chins, but between being in my own space and feeling very at ease with Lindsay I was able to relax and she was able to capture some really authentic family moments. We didn’t feel any pressure, we could virtually go on with our day as though she wasn’t there. jb joked that she was going to throw in a load of laundry so we could really capture our babymoon days. I could nurse Zoe on demand. Leo never got restless because he could play/help/read as he normally would. Lindsay was easy to be around and great with Leo. It was a really easy going and pleasant experience. I feel like we got a great mix of shots. Some family ones, some with different combinations of family members, some action shots, some posed newborn perfection, some more candid snaps. There were many that were perfect to share with family or hang on the wall and others that seemed so personal and intimate – freezing a moment that we are sure to cherish for years to come.
For the proofing session Lindsay came back to our house to go over the shots (convenient!) and we were obviously thrilled with the results. I got a little teary seeing the images on the screen – and couldn’t wait to pour over each one in detail. We chose a few favorites to get printed and were able to share the online gallery with family and friends should they want to order prints. Again – so hard to choose with so many great shots! Our prints and digital disc arrived in a cute little personalized package very shortly after we ordered. From start to finish – I was really impressed with the level of professionalism paired with all the little personal touches and individualized attention. And the prints…oh, my. There is no way to convey the quality through a computer screen – but wow. Much nicer than we’ve gotten from other places we’ve ordered from. They are truly gift/display caliber and are competitively priced for this area – of course there is also the option to purchase high-resolution images on disc if you prefer to do your own printing.
If you are looking for a photographer in the Philadelphia or South Jersey area – look into Dainty Hippo You’ll be glad you did.
Megan, on her romantic fall engagement session:
Kate and Lindsay were the perfect team to trust with our engagement shoot. We got stuck with some rain on our first outing and Kate was awesome and came out in the city for a second round of shots when the sun was out. Kate is great at being both the “invisible” photographer to get fantastic candids and also posing some great shots. Even my husband, who is usually uncomfortable posing for pictures, was at ease. Lindsay made sure that we got some of our favorite shots in black and white, color, and sepia, and used other creative processing techniques, too. I couldn’t help but look at them over and over again! The entire process was a wonderful experience and I’m so glad we chose DHD.
Joshua Popejoy (Philadelphia musician) on our live music photography and album design:
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lindsay on numerous projects. Aside from the fantastic photography she and Kate have provided from my live performances, she also did the layout for both (DHD note: now three!) of my records. With all the stress that comes with recording a CD, it was great to know that the artwork and layout was not something I needed to worry about. We collaborated effortlessly, and she created an incredibly professional product. Anytime I need photography/layout work, DHD will be the first place I call.
Erika, on our custom invitation design sevices:
Lindsay worked with me closely to create the text and design of my wedding invitations. She found the perfect font that worked with my theme, which was candy. I wanted an elegant invite that was also fun and whimsical. Lindsay managed to capture exactly the look I wanted. All of our guests marveled at the creative way the candy theme was worked into the design so subtly, yet still making an impact. The simplicity of incorporating candy into scrolling filigree was exactly what I was looking for in a wedding invitation. She listened to what I wanted and managed to come up with a design that went beyond my expectations. I would work with DHD again and again. They are very thoughtful and diligent in their work, and take the time to understand the project fully and create something unique, giving you exactly what you want and more.
Dr. K. Ashley Brandt, D.O. (“DJ K.Ash”), on her promotional head shots:
I had the benefit of doing a photo shoot with Kate and Lindsay for a series of deejay promotional shots and from that experience, I honestly have never worked with a more professional pair of photographers. From my own standpoint, I often find photo shoots very intimidating, but Kate made me feel very comfortable, natural, and relaxed during each shot. During the actual set, she was very creative and flexible when it came to the locations and even though I had some ideas in mind about the sites beforehand, Kate was able to really pinpoint perfect locations and poses that were very appropriate for the genre. After the shoot, the turnaround time on getting the final prints was very rapid, and Lindsay did an amazing job on the contrast of the prints, making the shots really stand out where appropriate. As a result, I have used their series of shots for every promotional event and flier when a photo was required, and the photos generated quite a bit of acclaim from the managers and artists who have utilized them. For anyone interested in getting any type of artist photography taken, DHD would be my number one recommendation.
